ABOVE & BELOW, 2017

Promo_Image.jpg

If my body were a bank,
that holds the water in.
I’d watch you,
from my side to yours
We’d rise and fall,
lean in and pull away
Two banks that never meet.

Low res, two channels combined for preview purposes.
First two minutes of work is silent.

Above & Below marks Robertson’s first collaboration with her sister, Jasmine Robertson, combining their respective disciplines of video and movement. The work responds to a site at the Abbotsford Convent. As her sister performs the space, Robertson captures the process through multiple cameras and mirrors, traversing between filmmaker and performer. The work explores the boundaries of self in relation to others and our built and natural environment.

This work was made possible with the support of the Abbotsford Convent Foundation.

As part of their research, collaborators Claire and Jasmine Robertson developed a contemplation. ' On 8 April 2017, perched on either side of the Yarra River, participants were invited to listen to an audio guide via their smart phone, contemplating as a group across the waters, and exploring the boundaries of self in relationship to others and the environment.
